Some people only see what they want to see =)

I vouch for what AJP said about powerful FWD's =) A slow car is just as fun, especially since most corners are spaced far enough apart for you to reach the speed limit again anyways! And faster than that really isn't an option. The road surfaces are too bumpy and too many cars/animal life to really open anything up. The times I do actually open'er up I usually have problems skittering the fronts from being thrown around under the brakes. Nevermind no traction in 1st in the dry and sometimes 3rd in the wet... Just on the dry my fronts don't settle into the pavement until I am mostly through second...at about 40-45MPH...

The thing is the car you have now, you know the history, you know that it's never been run through a plowed field and the undercarriage bent up or something else totally crazy. If your dad drove chances are he wasn't extermely hard on, at least nowhere near as hard a 17 year old kid! =)

If it honestly would cost that much to fix it's time you took your Dad's toolbox out and learned how to do a headgasket =) You would probably have to get the head planed, but even then it would be nowhere near what a garage will give you as an estimate.

£900 is peanuts for a first year driver and a great price, you won't find much less I don't think. Mine was £2,000 back in 02.

Check out what a neon insurance would be, they are insurance group 8. A 306 is 6 IIRC.

Nah Tristan is neither, he's just winding you up. That and he's a single seater fanboy!

Civic's have a huge aftermarket business behind them. Parts would be relatively cheap, but I expect your insurance group wouldn't change much.

TBH £900 for a first year insurance is a really good price. As is 34MPG. If you get a 'fast' car you will never be anywhere near the estimated milage anyways, trust me on this

Stick with the proton, you know the car and know the quirks behind it. If you get a new car you end up with a car that you, or your Dad doesn't really know the history on.

If you want a 'fast' car MX5's will probably be too high in insurance for you.

I always told you get an srt-4 from the states, insurance group 8!

It also depends on how close you are to the track record for that car. This is 1 reason why I think GT2 see's more people getting more points than GT1.

Get it right becky it's and SRT-4 ACR =P

I get about 30MPG down the highway, but no it's not the best on fuel, especially when you open it up. I think I did 15 laps at silverstone on 3/4 of tank...

Nah I'm used to mocking. If I had the money I would NOT be driving this. But it was cheap and engineered well for what I wanted at the cost bracket I could afford. I had to compromise somewhere =) Saying that they are still selling used for the price I bought it new, more in some rare cases.

It's a capable car, but it's nothing fancy, still it's all I could afford though with the reliability high as well as the handling and performance. It has LSD, but still it's FWD and will push if driven too hard into a corner, but you pretty much have to be on a track to get near understeering in anything but a hairpin. The fronts can be overwhelmed easy enough to put you into understeer, but you have to be a complete idiot to that, less so now that I put harder tires on it, but still it takes a bit of power to break them loose.

It doesn't have multilink or anything fancy, just cheap struts, but for a DD you don't need anything more. Still, it will keep up to everything but a supercar, really have to be on the track though to see where the car under performs. And if I had the money to run trackdays and actually race, I would not be considering my car.

=) Thought that is who you were thinking of, no worries =) Redman has a VX220 now, supposedly he was getting a supercharger for it too.

Hope you don't mean me, I never had a punto =)

I think the viper engine is about the same size as a full punto =)

I think they both will improve with the alliance. Fiat needed doors into America and Chrysler needs the engineering work done with the small cars. Chrysler also needs the worldwide distribution outside the US.

Potentially, if the managers work together, they can create two of the strongest automotive companies out there. They both now will have the path, they just need to make something that people will really enjoy and afford, which I think between the two of them they can.

Wonder if it will help Dodge out any, specifically their international sales.

I dropped my Yamaha SecaII at about 15MPH when there was sand in the road right on a 90 degree corner, that was just after a hill.... Not fun.

That cover is thicker and stronger than you think, I highly doubt you did any serious damage to it.

Funnybear where do you live?

J25 is a bit out of my way, but I could do it if you need a lift.

Levering it out is the better option IMO. The threads are already gone and you won't do any more damage to the hole, although you can damage other parts of the bike if you have to lever hard, but if the bolt is crossthreaded there shouldn't be too much resistance, just make sure you pull directly up and not any other direction.

Problem with drilling, at least for me, is getting the drill lined up exactly square to the hole. Bolts also tend to be a bit stronger than your normal piece of sheet stock and it can take a bit to work through the bolt, especially if you do not have very good bits that are maintained properly.

Helicoil is your better option for replacing the threads. Alternatively you can oversize the hole and go with the next size bolt. Drill and tap accordingly, make sure you stay on the same thread scale between the thread and the bolt. But I would only do this if there is plenty of material around the hole.

Quote from Dizman :No, logic will tell you that seeing the tyres go up in smoke and then grip again shows actual throttle control. But I'm done wasting my time here since you can't grasp this simple concept.

This only tells me that they are going from coast to full throttle and back to coast, nothing about modulation which would require to be going smoothly between the two, trying to find where the grip begins.

It could be possible that they are indeed modulating the throttle as you say but... there is no way to tell either way from that video which is happening as there is neither a foot feed or any telemetry.

That looks interesting.

Logic would assume to show pedal modulation you would need videos that actually show their feet, or at least telemetry.

Quote from GrIp DrIvEr :Well, the IROC can't really handle. but they look so cool! and they are quite fast.

With exception to the new Camaro I haven't heard of a single one being able to handle =)

Still for an 80's car it wasn't bad.
